Masking Guidance by Worksite

UnitedHealth Group requires masks in any of its facilities in Metropolitan Statistical Areas (MSAs) that include at least one county designated as high risk. Risk level is based on CDC data, which is updated weekly. Learn more and see your worksite's current masking requirement on our Masking Guidance by Worksite page, updated weekly.

What Does This Mean For You?

Effective immediately, if you are vaccinated and work in an administrative site, masks are optional in low and medium risk communities. Masks continue to be required for anyone in a high-risk community. Colleagues who work in clinical facilities must adhere to current masking protocols until further notice. Unvaccinated employees must continue to follow their current approved individual accommodation plan, which includes masking.

Please note, masking continues to be strongly recommended for vaccinated employees in medium risk areas if:

  • You are immunocompromised or at high risk for severe illness
  • You live with, or have social contact with someone who is high risk for severe illness

Vaccinated employees in low-risk areas are encouraged to wear a mask based on personal preference and personal level of risk.

High

Universal masking required.

Medium

Mask optional.

Low

Mask optional.

CDC County Risk Level

County data is based on:

  • New COVID-19 admissions per 100,000 population in the past 7 days
  • Percent of staffed inpatient beds occupied by COVID-19 patients
  • Total new COVID-19 cases per 100,000 population in the past 7 days

The COVID-19 community level is determined by the higher of the new admissions and inpatient beds metrics, based on the current level of new cases per 100,000 population in the past 7 days
